Owned by the family
In 2006, the current owner Gerda Kiem took over the farm as a result of the inheritance arrangement in the family. At the time of the farm takeover, the farm had only a small wine-growing area of a few hundred square metres. In the following years, the vineyard area was gradually expanded, so that it currently amounts to about 2 hectares.
Our vineyards
The vineyards are located in the vicinity of Merano (Merano Basin) at an altitude of 310 – 500 m a.s.l. on south-eastern slopes. The majority of the vineyards are steep slopes, which have a slope gradient of 40 – 75%. A smaller proportion grows on slopes with a gradient of up to 15%.
The vineyards are located on mineral-rich moraine slopes of former glaciers, as well as on scree and alluvial cones below the Marlinger Berg complex. The light, permeable loamy sandy soil is interspersed with fine-grained mica schist, reddish-brown garnet rock and paragneisses (quartz, feldspar and much more). Thus, they are characterized by the rock diversity of the entire catchment area of the glaciers. The climate is mild and Mediterranean.
Our winery
When the farm was built in 2017, a lot of emphasis was placed on natural building. Our winery is largely built underground into the natural slope. It is mainly realised with local materials and is therefore as ecological as possible. We made a point of using as few different materials as possible in order to give clarity and simplicity. We have tried to use local materials as much as possible, with which we also want to reflect our connection and our attitude to life.
